Stores that started with flat-rate shipping usually never filled weight in. The day you switch to carrier-calculated rates, that omission turns into either undercharged shipping or a checkout that offers no rates at all.
Because weight lives on the variant, correcting it is a filtered bulk task — usually by product type, where items are physically similar.
