Bulk edit products by collection on Shopify

Collections are how merchandising already thinks about the catalog, which makes them the most reviewable filter for a bulk edit.

Every other filter describes products from the outside — a price band, a date, a tag. A collection is a decision someone already made about what belongs together, and that makes it easy to check whether a bulk edit is about to touch the right things.

The app can select by collection membership and combine that with any other condition.

Edits that suit a collection filter

  • Category promotions — discount everything in a collection, with a scheduled rollback.
  • Retagging — apply a merchandising tag to a whole collection.
  • Status changes — publish or draft a collection’s products together.
  • SEO backfills — category-specific meta descriptions.
  • Vendor or type corrections, where a collection is the practical grouping.

Run your next category promotion straight from the collection.

Combining collection with other conditions

  • Collection plus inventory — discount only what is in stock.
  • Collection minus a tag — exclude protected products with “does not contain”.
  • Collection plus price band — tiered discounts inside one category.
  • Collection plus creation date — treat new arrivals differently.
  • Multiple collections at once, matched with “any”.

A worked example: promote a category except its new arrivals

  1. Filter: collection is “Knitwear”, tag does not contain “new-in”, inventory more than 0.
  2. Editors: compare-at from price, price −20%, round .99.
  3. Preview: the count should match the collection size minus this season’s arrivals.
  4. Schedule start and revert times, then run.

Automated collections shift under you

A smart collection re-evaluates its conditions continuously. That is useful for recurring tasks — the filter follows the collection — and dangerous for a one-off, because what you previewed on Tuesday is not necessarily what runs on Friday.

For scheduled promotions on automated collections, tag the products first and filter on the tag: it freezes the selection at the moment you reviewed it.
