A seasonal pricing calendar

Most stores already know what will happen in October. Almost none of it is scheduled in advance.

Retail years repeat. Season launches, mid-season promotions, the November weekend, end-of-season clearance, the January reset. The work is predictable; what is not predictable is who will be available at midnight to do it.

Turning a calendar into tasks

Anything with a date can be a scheduled task created weeks earlier. A season launch is a status change with a start time. A promotion is a price change with a start and a revert. A markdown ladder is three tasks with three dates.

A worked year

MomentTaskTiming
Season launchProduct status → active for the season tagStart time on launch day
Launch promotionPrice −10%, compare-at snapshotStart and revert, one week apart
Mid-seasonPrice −20% on slow movers, filtered by inventoryStart time only
Peak weekendTiered discounts by tagStart Friday, revert Tuesday
End of seasonMarkdown stage one, then two, then threeThree start times
ResetStatus → archived for unsold, clear compare-atStart time

Create the next quarter’s promotions in one sitting instead of six late evenings.

Build the cleanup into the plan

The step everyone forgets is the restoration: clearing compare-at prices, removing sale tags, archiving what did not sell. Adding it to the calendar as its own task is what stops a catalog looking permanently discounted by March.

Review the log, not the plan

At the end of each season, the task history tells you what actually happened — which stage moved stock, what was skipped, how deep the final markdown went. That is a better input to next year’s calendar than anybody’s memory.
